Letter to the Prime Minister: Black Representation on the Ministerial Advisory Council on Rights, Equality, and Inclusion

June 9, 2026

Meeting of the Minds T.A.L.K.S. has written to the Right Honourable Mark Carney, Prime Minister of Canada, and the Honourable Marc Miller, Minister of Canadian Identity and Culture and Chair of the Ministerial Advisory Council on Rights, Equality, and Inclusion.

The letter congratulates the Government of Canada on the launch of the Council and welcomes its mandate to combat racism and hate in all their forms. It also draws attention to a significant oversight: the Council’s announced membership does not include Black community leadership.

Given the documented state of anti-Black racism and hate in Canada, MOTM T.A.L.K.S. has requested a meeting to discuss how Black Canadian perspectives and expertise on anti-Black racism will be reflected in the Council’s work, and has expressed interest in partnering to advance a fair and equitable selection process.

The letter is signed by Floydeen Charles-Fridal, Executive Director, Caribbean African Canadian Social Services, and Sylvia Parris-Drummond, Chief Executive Officer, Delmore “Buddy” Daye Learning Institute.
